Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School

School Council

We are very proud to have a Student Council, which comprises of two students from each class - Year 2 to Year 5 - and three students from Year 6.  Members of the Student Council are elected each year by other pupils throughout school to represent them.

Suggestions and ideas are given by each class, to their Council representative, who puts forward the most inspiring ones to the relevant member of staff.  These may include:

  • Suggestions for new playground or classroom equipment;
  • Ideas to help pupils with lessons in class;
  • Suggestions for changes in the classroom, e.g. moving tables and equipment to enhance learning;
  • Ways in which to help the younger students.

Meetings are sometimes arranged between the School Council and school staff or governors, where concerns or ideas are discussed.

The School Council plays a part in staff recruitment at the school; it has its own interview panel.
