Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School

Friendship Squad

In an effort to make lunchtimes more active and enjoyable for our pupils on the play ground and to ensure that all children have an opportunity to be meaningfully engaged at lunchtime, we have set up our “Friendship Squad”. It is now an established part of school life and is a great source of enjoyment for our children.

Pupils in Years 2,3,4 and 5 have the opportunity to be involved in the day-to-day running of the squad, managed by Mrs Pike (Senior Lunch Time Supervisor).

Children apply for a position on the squad and then take part in some training exercises, led by Ms Holland and Mrs Pike. We have a wonderful selection of activities and outdoor equipment, but also encourage simple clapping, skipping and singing games such as the old time favourite "Oranges & Lemons".

Members of the "Friendship Squad" wear special yellow bibs which are easily identifiable and they look out for any child who may feel lonely on a particular day, or is in need of company.

We are particularly proud of our Friendship Squad and its positive impact on playtimes in our school. We are also delighted that other schools have asked to come and visit us to see our Friendship Squad and Fitbod schemes in operation!
